English has infiltrated into Japan in odd ways. It's not uncommon (I'm
told) for things like magazines to have English names... or perhaps
"semi-English" would be a better description, because they often combine
English words in ways that a fluent English speaker would consider odd.
JAXA is very much aware that most of the rest of the world reads the
English versions of their announcements etc., so they pay considerable
attention to how things come out in English. Still, using the English
acronym even in the Japanese text *is* a bit startling.
