They use UUVs
(underwater unmanned vehicles) for a variety of tasks, such as mine
detection and reconnaissance, but they aren't ready for, say, salvage
recovery.

But boy did they manage to bring up a lot of crap from the Titantic
without a single human diver going to the wreck, so I'm fairly sure a
robot could pick up random rocks on the Moon. :)

The Titanic robots were teleoperated, either from a manned submersible a
few feet away, or from the surface 12,000 feet away. The transport lag was
negligible. On the moon it won't be, so the robots will be correspondingly
far less dextrous.

The Moon is about 3 light-seconds away, so the delay would be
negligible. And per the above, the teleoperator would pick and choose
which rocks, of course. Oh, and other than it being nifty-keen that
the rocks came from the Moon, what, exactly, was interesting about
them?

820 Million, btw, is a heck of a lot less than the 500 -Billion-
projected for a manned mission to Mars. That's a factor of over 500
times less expensive.
