Not everything that exists is interesting.

Things that are unique - such as the Moon and Mars - are always interesting.

To you, perhaps, not to everyone - this is where the emotion comes in.
You can't just -say- the Moon and Mars are so interesting that it's
worth billions upon billions of dollars to get there - you have to
fully justify the cost/interest ratio. There are a LOT of interesting
things in the universe, and we have a limited supply of funds. You
have to make your case, which you haven't, that the Moon and Mars are
more interesting than, say, figuring out how to cure prion diseases.
