Enjoy Generations, First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis immensely,
though
again I'm not by any means a TNG fan. But they're great movies, much
better
acting and character development than TOS (granted, any positive fraction
is
by definition >0).
Insurrection was boring re-hash, and Nemesis was just...utter crap.
Visually
impressive, but the story felt like something a 10 year old would write.
The
main bad guy being a clone of Picard is just...stupid. There are more
than 10
people in the universe dorks. There are even more than 10 *important*
people
in the universe. Let's feature some of them shall we? This "we have a
set of
characters and no one else exists" idea is one reason I'm leery of this
new
Kirk/Spock at the Academy movie.
you notice how Jack Ryan is the only CIA agent who ever goes out in the
field, besides Mr. Clark?
Same reason: franchises are built around main characters (the actors
portraying same get franchise salaries, not to mention), so the stories
focus on them. Clancy's worst-selling books are the ones without Ryan
playing a major role in them. The dullest CSI episodes are the ones without
Grissom. Etc., etc.
It's just a structural limitation of a series, whether movies, books or TV
shows. Nemesis wasn't remotely special that way.

Many scientists recall President Dwight Eisenhower's warnings about the
danger of the rising postwar military-industrial complex, notes Mr. Happer,
now a Princeton physicist. In the same speech, however, Eisenhower also
warned: "We must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public
policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.
It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these
and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic
system...."
