Re: Saturn V

China isn't even flying one Shenzou per year. The notion that they
will not only copy a 40 year old US booster, but build all the
new facilities that flying it would require, is not on.

Plus, that a lot of the relevent technology has so moved on, that trying
to rebuild a Saturn V would be impossible now.

Again the Chinese would be developing infrastructure that has not
previously existed, as against going back 40 years and trying again,
as per USA

" A difference which makes no difference is no difference. " James
Blish.

There is an obvious difference in momentum and mindset.
The Chinese have enormous confidence and 'cando' mounting,
the US seems to be bitter cynical and twisted. And hell bent on
throwing away a 50 year lead.
The Chinese can and do duplicate in a very cheap way all 'western tech'
Which is frustrating for say a motorcycle or a torch, but just
the trick for 'rockets as ammunition' mindset that Apollo embodies.

You'd have to redesign a lot of the electronics, which means a lot of
sections and shapes will change. The IM won't need to be quite so
massive, for instance.

which is good right? build in more reliability? I am sure the weights and
inertial moments can be engineered right.

Please post your aerospace engineering credentials.

No, but I will say that I started building model rockets at age 8.
I taught myself trig to work out how high they went.
I have publications in refereed journals, in technical areas.

Hell just use ballast if needs be.

Thats too rich, ballast on a rocket, where each pound of dry weight
means ten more pounds of fuel to lift...

ballast could be water for shielding (or surplus fuel) etc etc etc
ballast of anything is good - the rocket should only just get on orbit
with as much as possible going up and not coming back

Plus, no matter how you slice it, it would still be an expensive
rocket. Eleven throw away large engines...

if they are mass produced, not one off jewells, they would be cheap

Yup, engineered by the Chinese - order of magnitude savings to be had.

No proof offered ? Claim fails.

Look in any shop nearby, QED

If there is one thing they are good at - its cheap takeaway/throwaway :)

Indeed. Let us know when they copy any western rocket of more than five
tons total weight...

they will, when they want too. Perhaps they do not want to piss off a
VERY paranoid America

Andre

While they are at it they could put a couple of SRB's on the side of it!
(the Chinese Saturn, that is)

Now, prove that that would actually fly...

Easy

Get an entire Mars Mission up in one fell swoop

Its nice when engineering problems can be hand waved away...

yes it is isn't it? because the engineering has already been done
the art is already there - all it comes down to is manufacturing
and politics, and will

But, back on Planet Earth...

Use the SaturnSRB's to get the infrastructure up, and TSTO lear jets
for the passengers

This is 1930 pulp style fiction...

No, the Saturn didn't exist then. Neither did SRB's
And mildly reengineered Lear Jets on SRB's

easy really

As is taking drugs...

:)

Whatever it takes. Dude.

Go read a book...

I have, am doing, and will continue to do so, thanks.

Andre
