Hmmm... no. They're downconverted to shockwave
flash in order to play in the web browser.
... and Mozilla on my Linux box is able to see them.
Konqeror under linux can see them as well,
even when I can't :) But it's neither the
original file nor an optimal solution.
I'm also able to snarf the videos to my local storage with wget.
Youtube: only through third-party workarounds
and Youtube actively works to disable such
direct downloads Red Queens Race.
Google: Google does allow direct downloads,
which is a point in its favor, but that
doesn't quite make up for its attempt to
automatically load the flash file when you
just want the video itself.
And their site/UI is far less obnoxious than geoshitties.
I wasn't speaking of geo.
Hint: the optimum solution, of course, is a
site that just allows you to either play the
file itself in your browser (depending on the
preferences of the browser you are using at
the moment) or to download it direct... or to
do both. And one that doesn't impose silly "4
megs per hour" bandwidth limit.
Geo isn't it.
Youtube is far from it.
Google ain't it either.
What *is* it?...
Watch the skies :)
Man! thought I'd never see the day when someone said something was
inferior to geoshitties...
And you still haven't seen the day... ;)
I only use geocities on the rare occasions
when I have to play hardball with folks like
the media corporations (especially some of
the nastier small fry)
(... and to Geo's and Yahoo's credit they
haven't caved yet.)
