We're coming up on the 10th anniversary of ssh, kids!

....According to Google, here's the first thread that got it all
started. That is, depending on how the Advanced Search in Google
Groups decides to feed you when you invoke the search. Apparently
there's a lot of timestamp confusion in the archives, but the two that
seemed to come up the most times as being "first" were the two I've
listed below. Watch the word w

....My first post upon the [insert vehement epithet here] at Netcom
finally adding the group to their groups list was on Sun, Nov 3 1996,
supposedly at midnight, and was in response to a thread about the 20
Top Events in the US/Russia Space Program.

....Of course, is "Edward F. Dietz, Jr." now calling himself Paul?

....And, of course, this group came about primarily due to the efforts
of one person: Richard David Glueck. Dickl's charter post was as
follows:

Welcome to Sci.Space.History!

This newsgroup is dedicated to discussion of all completed
spaceflight endeavors, by all spacefaring nations. Specificly, we are
hoping to promote discussions on Projects Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo,
Vostok, Voshkod, and Soyuz space launches, retired rocket booster
vehicles, the careers and lives of all astronauts and cosmonauts,
technical information concerning spacecraft, etc. Rosters and
builder's data is also welcomed. The group is also open to the
discussion of unmanned and robotic spacecraft

Posting of binaries is not permitted, nor is discussion of
alien's, supposed extra-terrestrial visitations, and alien spacecraft.
This group is unmoderated, so we are requesting self-policeing by the
participants. The suggested method for this is simply not to reply to
notices which do not conform to the forum (get rich quick schemes,
flames, lures to explicitly off-topic sites, etc.).

Since this newsgroup is dedicated to sharing historical
information about spaceflight, we recognize that some participants
will be experts in their field of interest, while other will be just
seeking new knowledge and facts. This is an open site, so go
for it; ask questions, offer answers, and learn.

Welcome to SCI.SPACE.HISTORY!

....I haven't seen Dick post anything here since May, but suspect he's
otay as he posted something to alt.ham-radio.vhf-uhf on 9/22/06. His
activity's down to a trickle, but he's definitely not out! I'm hoping
he'll pop around to share some of his thoughts about how the group was
formed, just so the newbies who weren't around back then can
understand what guys like me and Henry went through in those ancient
times :-)

....In any case, it looks as if October 29th is the official birth date
for this group, unless anyone else has a more official date. Either
way, it's been a long strange trip, and I suspect about a month from
now we'll all be dredging up old thread tales to mark the occasion.

Hmm...I wonder how many of us now currently active have been around
since the start besides me, Henry, and JimO?
