I always wondered that also; I assume you sever the lines and hope the thing leaves the vicinity of the capsule before you eject.
In retrospect this was a pretty ambitious proposal for something that was supposed to be a fairly simple spacecraft.
They investigated landing Apollo via parawing, but that also went nowhere.
