As we've come to realize, the damage is far, far less than the original explosion
video seemed to suggest. The rocket fell directly down through the hole in the deck
and exploded on the sea surface, destroying only the twin flame deflectors. It's not
even certain now that the ship can't be repaired in California in a matter of months.
The blogger is Joel Johnson, the photographer requests anonymity.
That sort of what I assumed had happened.
The Russians seem to design their pads to take explosions.
Lord knows more than a few Semyorkas have fallen through their pads into the flame pit over the years, and close-ups of the Proton's launch pad make it look almost armor plated.
