When you say "texture" do you mean the surface details of the CM, or specifically that of the plating? Any chance that something like "Bare Metal(tm)" foil would fix it?

...That's the general approach most modelers who give a *** take.
First they do the bleach trick to remove the gold plating,

Is it gold plating or chrome with a transparent yellow overcoat?
To me it looks like the latter.
