Things were going fine in in America until our congress decide it could

....Kids, it wasn't Congress who came up with the idea to start DST
three weeks early and end it one week late. It was Micro$oft lobbyists
who were the culprit. The reasoning was simple: if PC users wanted
their clocks automatically set for them, then they had to download a
software patch from M$ and install it. However, when you get there, M$
makes you install this anti-piracy applet that keeps screwing with the
OS and downloading updates you may not want. At the same time, if your
copy of Windows isn't legit *and* you haven't registered with M$, you
can't download the patch. Furthermore, if you're running anything
other than Win2K or XP, there's no patch for you, and there never will
be unless you upgrade. Which for anyone running Win98 or NT4, usually
means buying a whole new system. All for a clock that'll change for
DST for you.

....So, with one act of Congress, M$ sets up traps for PC owners to
either get them to buy their overpriced copies of Windows, or buy new
systems outright with legit copies of Windows installed. Which means
that now, more than ever, daylight savings time is a complete and
total scam.
