Indeed. "scott's" pathologies here were nutty and factless. That
doesn't
deserve " mercy ". If he wanted mercy, then he should have behaved in
a way that would have earned some.

" scott " was more like the homeless nut pushing a cart on the street,
yelling at invisible bats... Sad, but all his choice.
