Titanium is actually quite common on Earth. The pigment in good-quality
white paint is titanium dioxide. The problem with titanium is extraction,
not supply: it's a very active metal that's hard to pry loose from its
ores, and you have to do a very thorough job because its properties are
terribly sensitive to impurities.
