Alan Schwartz' technique is (or was) intended to stimulate thought and rigor in
these discussions through well-placed needling. This sometimes worked; Google him
and read his posts from the 1990s. Unfortunately in the last few years he has
developed some tendency to rely on his own off-the-cuff opinions and less on
analysis or fact, and his needling becomes at times a near-psychotic ranting, so
his effectiveness has decreased considerably. It is a pity.

Don't confuse this "Uncle Al" with the nom-de-plume of Al Sicherman appearing in
the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
