Why would one want to transport salt? The colonists at the equator don't want
salty water, they have plenty of salt already and the salt would pile up at
their end as they extracted the water from the brine. This is eventually going
to make a mountain of salt that will get bigger and bigger. you are basically
transporting salt away from the poles along with the water. The water will
eventually return to the poles, but not so for the salt.
