If these problems are in fact solved then the solutions are not
publically available. So your argument is like saying that there was no
point in developing Linux because Sun/HP/IBM/AT&T had already solved
that problem.

John Carmack is an investor in XCOR so I suspect he may have a fairly
good idea what they have available.
