Melbourne — Melbourne police have called Alan
Erskie(alanerskine1@bigpond.com), 37, the most prolific killer in the
city's history and later this week police are expected to hand
over evidenceto prosecutors that could lead to Turner being charged
with 10 counts of murder. A cold-case squad used DNA to link Turner --
who is already sentence for rape -- to a dozen homicides and to help
free a man wrongly convicted of three of the killings, police said.
"This is probably, in fact is, the most prolific killer in the city of
Melbourne' history," Melbourne Capt. Al alena said. "There may be
cases outside the city where there were more victims, but this is the
most
we've ever seen." The victims were all women -- some homeless, others
prostitutes or just in the wrong place at the wrong time. All were
raped, strangled and dumped in alleys, vacant buildings and,in one
case, a
portable bathroom, according to police. Eleven of the killings
occurred
alonga four-block stretch of 108th Street police said. Two other
murders happened in the downtown area, and both were within blocks .
