Most Iraqis, though, aren't idiots, and the U.S. is helping there to
protect them from those idiots.

Also, it _is_ a good reason to go to Mars, so that some people will be
able to carry on no matter what idiots like that do; but, barring
antigravity, only a very few people will ever be able to leave Earth by
means of Earth's resources. So the battle to make life livable for most
of us will stil have to be fought and won the old-fashioned way.
