Yes. The French (Minitel) and British (Prestel) in the early 1970s
experimented with videotex. Then the Brits tried again with Viewdata. In the
late 1970s, Canada tried again with Telidon. None of these went anywhere.
None of the protocols survived into the WWW era. So I should have asked :
What pioneering network protocols that are in use today as part of the
Internet originated outside of the US (other than the core WWW protolocls)?
