NASA Langley to cut 1,000 jobs

HAMPTON -- NASA Langley Research Center Director Roy Bridges Jr.
announced today that he will have to reduce the workforce by 1,000
employees by the end of fiscal year 2006.

That would take the center from 3,900 civil service and contract
employees to 2,900.

"I know it's difficult to take this news," Bridges said.

He added that the workforce reduction is necessary in order for Langley
to remain competitive under the agency's new exploration vision, and
that he would continue to fight for more work for the center.

Science, specially research is expensive and doesn't bring so
much profit as PowerPoint presentations. Let's cut research and
increase the power point side of things:

"The new space vision"

This means:
Cut research today, search and destroy all projects with
some scientific value and replace it with vapor-ware, in the
"Star wars initiative" style that Reagan pioneered with so much
success in the eighties. Billions went up in that smoke screen,
that never produced anything. Of course, the billions weren't lost
for everbybody...
