Re "Return To the Moon -- And STAY!" (a goal of the National Space
Society),. Rand: it is not exactly "dream on" in the derisive sense of the
world. Now that the Ansari X Prize has been won in the successful launches
of SpaceShip One, the Bigelow X Prize has been announced (check out
Space.com and related Websites). It is altogether possible -- indeed,
probable -- that there will be a permament city on the Moon within the next
quarter century.

The writer is not a fan of Art Bell, but one of the late Gerard K. O'Neill
and his permamently orbiting space cities at the Lagrangian Points. In a
since defunct forum, Space Policy Digest, the writer was one of the biggest
pro-O'Neill implementationists on the forum. The Space City would pay for
itself through export of Space Solar Power, Platinum (and other rare-earth)
Group Metals, and Space Tourism -- "what better place for an honeymoon than
the bridal suite of a zero-gravity space hotel?" (O'Neill)

And from a physical point of view: an heart that would be in danger of
collapse in a 250+ pound human male would continue to beat well when the
gravity is only 1/6th that of Earth. Clarke had his hero in "Prelude to
Space", Dirk Alexson, PhD (University of Chicago) living out his final years
on the Moon, as did Heinlein's (Delos D. Harriman). Luna -- the ultimate
