That's not what I'm reading. They've made the pay for
the military and police rather high and have plenty
of new recruits coming in.

And now Mosul and Najaf are policed by Iraqis only.
They've been quietly rebuilding the officer corps with
former Bathists. It's been the lack of competent officers
that's been the problem. They've had to rebuild the Iraqi
army from the bottom up first. So the officer corps comes
last, which means the competence and organization comes
last as well.

We can maintain control of any city we chose to. The
ones we've cleared and left only get retaken by the
insurgents. But we're not leaving any more, and the
recent offensive is clearing out the largest Fallujah like
strongholds for the Jihadists along the border.
We've been steadily driving them west for the last
year or so. Now their backs are finally against the
wall.
And another point, the Jihadists have been quickly losing
support in Arab public opinion around the region and in
Iraq. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan have all launched
major efforts to control the Jihadists as public opinion
is demanding.
Don't you see the big picture? By invading Iraq we've forced
the extremists into attacking fellow Arabs and their govts.
So now it's their problem too, and theirs to fix....now.
And another point strongly in our favor. The Grand Ayatollah
Sistani's word is law in Iraq for the vast majority. And he is
telling us how the govt should be shaped. Sistani is the
biggest supporter of the elections and constitution.
He issues religious orders for all Shiites to vote, and to vote
for democracy.
You have to keep your eye on the ball, defeating the Jihadists
and spreading democracy is what matters. On both counts
we're winning, and will win.
