CalTech has a video that shows the principle in action, they used
cartoons for their depiction. That depiction is one of an experiment on
Earth giving the same results as an experiment in space.
If you will notice, space exploration generally deals with space,
sometimes Earth conditions such as growing food and developing
medicines or medical technology, which are to be used on Earth and in
space. The going to space projects are generally designed just for
those space travel objectives of which some can be used on Earth. The
ion engine was developed here on Earth (the same as the plasma rocket)
before being launched into space. Einstein was not misconstrued.
