What is the policy for first contact anyways?
My personal policy will be to immediately pollute my pants, and run away
screaming like a little girl!
Second contact might have a bit more decorum....

Well-order the reals.
That sounds like the standard policy. For example, in broadcast
programs of the alien guest squad interacting with the humans in first
contact, that is regular behavior.
Alternatively, the first words out of an alien's first contact is "take
me to your leader." That can be assumed because there are bazillions
of alien languages that nobody has ever translated, and the broadcasts
show that very often. Not all aliens speak Earth English.
Fender Heavy's on _my_ team.
It's like, Alien, versus Predator, or, like the cow planet and the
spider planet and so on. Any kind of aliens from television and
Sci-Fi, magic and fantasy, it could be any of those.
We'd be lucky to meet actually intelligent aliens. They're very busy.
Hopefully they're not busy bringing about the end of the universe.
Aliens: they're alien.
So what do you do if somebody shows up and gives you a fifty ton mech?
What if they're human? You'd give them the human.
That's true regardless of whether aliens exist, or not, in the
universe, extraterrestrial aliens with tech level 9 or 10 plus.
