glow in such a way as to indicate that:

China could claim Mars as Chinese territory and require permission to go
there after they do. They could also deny permission.


Not according to current space treaties, IIRC.

And I think China is a signatory.

I may be wrong, though ( it's been more than 10 years since I last looked
into this in detail )


They can back out at any time. It's only paper.

Even if they do, they can claim whatever the wish. They can't enforce
it.
