One could easily use a tapered 10m aft section for engines and thrust
structure with a 8m diameter tank (and ET tooling for the tank).
The issue with RS-68s is not that they're bulkier and need more room, but
that they are less fuel-efficient and so need bigger tanks (if you keep
the same overall vehicle design). If you don't feel you can make the
tanks longer, you have to make them wider.
I should have read the article first... Thanks! What about dropping some
engines when the tanks start to empty? How many RS-68s are needed anyway?
