Current hardware prices do a pretty good job of supporting mine.

sensors cost? How much mass do you have to put aloft to put up a grad
student with life support (who still needs some sensors to tell what's
going on)?

Be a fanboi all you want, but if you can't put together a reasoned
argument for your position you should be real careful about what you
demand from others.
