Re: top ten reasons there'll be faster progress

:: But you can develop disposable cigarette lighters all you want, and
:: you won't advance the tech for flamethrowers at all.

: "Jordan" <JSBassior2001@xxxxxxxxx>
: Of course you would.

You seem to have a very generous meaning for "advance the tech" for
something. In fact, most of the issues that come up in flamethrower
design as significant problems, aren't even issues in lighters.
Getting the flamable to project long distances, stick to targets, and
still be ignitable reasonably, to name just the first few obvious ones.

: That was a bad example for you to pick, because the difference between
: a cigarette lighter and a flamethower is largely size and the need for
: a flamethrower to project its fuel in order to be militarily useful.

Heh. Well, remind me either not to use a lighter,
or not to use a flamethrower, which has been designed under this philosophy.

:: There would have to be a significant motive to do the extra development.

: And there _is_ such a motive: the longer-ranged the suborbital flight,
: the better the tourist experience to sell

That's already been discussed upthread, and is not likely to be
the sure and obvious thing you seem to portray it as.

: Um, no, you actually _do_ have "space tourism," by definition. People
: have taken paying tours into space, just for the heck of doing so.

One tourist (or a handful) does not "tourism" as an industry make.
