From <http://www.thespacereview.com/article/717/1>:

"Earlier last month Branson announced the launch of a new subsidiary,
Virgin Fuels, which will focus on biofuels and other renewable energy
sources. Branson also announced last month that he plans on investing
all his profits from his airline and train companies over the next ten
years‹estimated to be $3 billion‹into developing energy sources that
don¹t contribute to anthropogenic global warming."

So, we can observe about Richard Branson:

1. He thinks big.
2. He has a keen interest in developing space.
3. He is willing to spend billions on clean energy and mitigation of
global warming.

These three observations lead me to wonder if Branson might be the one
to finally kick-start the space solar power business. Three billion
dollars over ten years could fund a heckuva technology demonstrator, and
go a long way toward operational capability. And if, as it seems,
Branson wants to drag the world into the twenty-first century he no
doubt grew up envisioning, what better way to do it than making the
world reliant on orbital infrastructure for its energy needs?

Far-fetched, I know, but it seems possible.

Be nice, but maybe too large for even his big wallet.
On Letterman the other night, Branson told a little joke.

How do you become a millionaire?
First you get a billion dollars, then start an airline.

....da dum.

Best,
