Al Qaeda is a minor player in Iraq. The insurgency is based on local
militia - local guys who get mad when they see a U.S. patrol in their
town and want to do something about it.
This war is being lost on the streets of Iraq, not on U.S. streets.
Not on US streets. In US newspapers, and on US television.
Bullcrap! Where is the Iraqi resolve to fight and defend their country?
Not a single significant number of Iraqis, good, bad or indifferent,
wants a US "victory" in Iraq. They simply want their country back and
it cannot look like our victory. No one there wants that and that is
the damn shame of it. That we actually thought we'd be liberators and
they'd welcome us with open arms just for toppling Saddam Hussein. The
best we'd get for that is "thanks, now get out". We've set ourselves up
to be liked as neutrals at best and it is obvious right now.
