Al Qaeda is a minor player in Iraq. The insurgency is based on local
militia - local guys who get mad when they see a U.S. patrol in their
town and want to do something about it.

This war is being lost on the streets of Iraq, not on U.S. streets.

Not on US streets. In US newspapers, and on US television.

Until now the US newspapers and television have had little effect
on the war in Iraq. The strategy of Bush has been to stay the course
regardless of US public opinion. This is probably about to change
with the elections going on but until now, this is how it has been.

The public opinion that has made a difference in the war is the
Iraqi public opinion, with a majority of Iraqis who think it is OK to
kill US troops, it is very difficult for US troops to win.
