Rich,
He's obviously lost and suffering within his own mental prison.
Plainly the result of thinking about symbols that properly point beyond
thought. A finger pointing at the moon the Buddhists call it.
He hasn't got that yet and is clearly very near mental collapse trying
to deal with the pain of his existence. The good news is that his
mental collapse is the first step into a larger world that is not
accessible by thinking - but surrender. He'd call it surrender to
Christ or some such. He's in blaming mode - all those sinners out
there are the cause for HIS pain! lol.
Don't know why he felt compelled to waste sci.space.policy bandwidth
with his meaningless drivel. Probably thinks we need to be saved or
something. Us nerdy space guys.
This post though does point to a continuing need among people for
religion - even in the modern age. Joe Campbell says its the 'hero
task' of the modern age creating a theology that incorporates the
scientific method. Experiments that prove Christ or something. lol.
Richard Grassman thinks he's done it and its just a bit of
pharmacology. The drugs you speak of. He likes DMT. Others favor E
or K. Or some combination. Edgar Mitchell of the Noetic Institute
disagrees. Who knows? Helen Schuman says that a common theology is not
possible for humanity. A common experience of the transcendant IS.
Which is enough. As Jesus might have said, On this rock I will build
my Church! lol.
Edgar Mitchell had an experience of the transcendant on his return from
the Moon aboard Apollo 14. E + K (ecstasy and ketamine) taken in the
right proportion and the right time lead to visions of angels or aliens
- as you prefer. And those entities speak with you. (according to
reports I've heard) revealing hidden knowledge.
These drugs are available in Switzerland with a prescription from you
therapist - medical grade. Not street drugs. It is rumored that NASA
uses these aboard MIR and the space station partly to experiment with
alien contact and partly to understand the experience of astronauts
like Edgar Mithcell.
I was thinking it would be very cool to write a murder mystery where
the Colombo like character stumbles upon the use of these drugs by NASA
- and stumbles upon a whole program - like the remote viewing program
of the CIA - within NASA that attempts to communicate with aliens by
drug induced hallucinations!
The discoverer of ketamine spent the last three years of his life in a
sensory deprivation tank strung out on this drug BECAUSE he thought he
was communicating with a larger intelligence. He actually patented
things based on his hallucinations (so called). I can imagine this
being taken up by NASA, following the mental breakdown of Aldrin and
the 'ravings' of Mitchell, and the 'success' of McDonagle in the CIA.
Sometime around the Carter Administration I would imagine. A
Presidential order would establish it. I can see Carter - a baptist
minister - and nuclear scientist - being persuaded to approve such a
program of 'inner discovery' - lol.
