Assuming a total cost of $1 trillion to develop this fleet and the
supporting infrastructure to make a city on the moon and mars a
reality, and outposts across the solar system.
At 8% ROI this is $80 billion per year. And lets say that the
recurring costs are double this $160 billion per year (10x NASA's
budget)
Now there are 1.15 million permanent residents in this scenario, and
another 2.19 million tourists, between moon and mars. Divide the $80
billion among the entire population, and we have $23,952 per person
per year. The tourist pays that per trip. The immigrant pays that
per year. Triple this to pay recurring costs - and you can see that a
trip would cost $75,000 plus marketing costs on Earth, and each adult
would pay $75,000 per year to support themselves. With incomes of
$125,000 to $250,000 per person per year, and two earner households,
folks should do quite well. In fact lots of the money on each
location should flow back into local investments to build up the
economy of each place and take advantage of opportunities as they
arise.
