Ah, yes - religious motives.
Perhaps we need to start a religion focused on going to other planets to find extra-terrestrial life.
One that holds it's mankind's sacred duty to spread earth's holy green fire.
Some people already believe that. But the group of people holding that belief are a diverse lot. It would be difficult to construct a cohesive meme they could all devote themselves to.
