This one is all PR and was probably all from the NASA end. His career
isn't gone. Just his astronaut job.
His career at the Astronaut Office is gone, which is what I predicted (and
summarized perhaps too tersely), and that's clearly where he wanted to be.
He *may* still have a career in the Navy. Last I recall, the Navy isn't
noted either for being hospitable and forgiving to people involved in
scandals, but he just might luck out over the fact that it wasn't the Navy
that got embarrassed by this one. Even if so, I would predict a series of
inconspicuous "back room" assignments -- techie-oriented jobs that may be
interesting and even important but won't be glamorous or involve great
authority (that is, won't be likely to attract media attention).
