Why? Other than the usual Ian Parker 'AI' bleat, I mean.

You do understand that 'conspiracy theory' almost inevitably means
that the 'theory' is a delusion of the paranoid, right?

No! No more gravy! Please!!

Thousands of years to go from a nearby star? At .1C to go to say Tau
Ceti would be only 100 years and at distancess out to 50 ly it would
take only 500 yrs. I can easily imagine genetically engineered long
life span "biots" being sent that distance. Maybe even a machine that
would grow "biots" when it arrived on location. The old bipedal model
with primary sensory organs and "brain" located up high (for
cooling) and two manipulating appendages seems to work very well and
evolved because ti did work so well.
A sort of Mini-Mag Orion craft with beams of fuel sent to it via
neutral particle beam so it didnt have to accelerate itwo own fuel
might allow significant payload.
My only problem with this scenario for Roswell is that I would guess
that the probability of a civilization being witjhin a couple hundred
years of us technologically and being so close physically would be low.
