Re: DON'T LOSE time and money around the fusion energy illusion and the lunar-helium-3 dream!!!

I think that fusion energy researches are a GIANT WASTE of TIME and

stable, "self-sustained" reaction, because we DON'T NEED any fusion
reactor AT ALL as explained in this article:

Well at first, I thought you were probably a moron -- but seeing so many
words in ALL CAPS convinced me.

And this is even better, because in addition to randomly capitalizing
words, you've also overzealously used boldface type! Who can argue with
such a compelling presentation?

I know you're a troll and I shouldn't feed you, but just in case some
value can come out of this, let's review your arguments:

1. You claim that there is no He3 on the Moon.
Problem: lunar geologists all seem to agree that there is. Are they
idiots, or do you have some evidence they don't have, or what?

2. You claim that all fossil fuels can be replaced with wind turbines:
Problem: this is highly unlikely. We currently derive about 10^13 watts
from fossil fuels, and mid-century power requirements are likely to be
several times that, even taking into account efficiency improvements.
Wind and PV together could supply maybe 20 TW, but it's intermittent and
low-density, so use on that scale would require radical reengineering of
our power grids (including superconducting cables). (Source: Hoffert et
al., Science 298:981-987.)

3. You claim that all the money put into fusion research has been a
waste.
I tend to agree with this one for the most part, especially with regard
to the (extremely expensive) tokamak approach. I do think there are
some alternative approaches worth funding, however (see the URL in my
sig). If any of these work out, our energy problems are solved (though
we still won't need He-3).
