People from all over the world need to be given a chanceThe inherent problem is that people will not change their opinions
to participate in their respective countries for a plan
that would identify and market their talents extrater-
restrially, in projects that are designed to create
explorers and survivors extraordinare - from the harshest
environments to the strictest confines of an interstellar
spacecraft - these are the rugged individualists that the
earth has prepared for our species.
: The bad people responsible for these obvious sources of
: human misery can be dealt with in a simple and direct
: manner. So I criticize those who attack the United States
: on the sadly infrequent occasions when it does something
: about evil tyrants.
In order to clear affected areas of hostile takeover and
before an enemy strike can be adversely effective, remote
access to satellite communication can act as an early warning
system for an approaching army or missle attack. This makes
an offensive war and the act of war itself, an act
of terrorism.
: Of course, we do have to look further than at bad people
: to find the ultimate causes of all the problems in the
: world. Peaceful peasant farmers, happily growing food for
: their families, usually end up having more children than
: would produce replacement fertility only.
All the more reason to expect that we sould find a new
planet to inhabit rather than *destroying* the people in
the one that we have. I believe that there are an infinite
supply of new earths to inhabit. Would that not make us
invaluable assets to the kingdom of the transhabitable
Earth-God?
when they go into space. I do not say that every conflict should be
solved before we think of colonizing space, that would be
unreasonable. What I am saying is that there is a very real danger
that conflicts will be carried on in space. There are are number of
points here.
1) The standard of living, initially at any rate, will be inferior to
that offered on Earth and that will inevitably attract those at the
more extreme range of opinion.
2) The isolation of that community will make its views more and more
disttinctive.
There is historical precedence. James I thought he had solved his
problem when the Mayflower sailed to America. Hiowever the history of
pre revolutionary America is littered with intolerance. Of people who
left Europe to flee intolerance they:-
a) Found it in America with a vengeance or
b) Making other people's lives a misery.
In the 17th century the amount of damage that could be done was
strictly limited. Noboby had weapons which were extentially dangerous.
A space colony is a reservoir of potentially dangerous weapons in the
hands of an isolated community.
If we allow this we are stark staring bonkers.
