The whole 'bandwidth' whine was a strawman argument even back in the
day of slow links.

Bull. Having managed an NNTP server, smaller posts were always preferred.


All of Usenet is a vanishingly small part of what is typically
consuming 'bandwidth' these days.

It is for those who are actually READING it.

In any event, it's also a time waster to have to try to scroll through long
posts to see 2 lines at the bottom. If people have something they think is
important to say, it makes little sense to make it HARDER for the reader
read it.
