I also
feel that it is rubbish to suppose that freedom in E Europe depended
on the support given to reactionary and repressive régimes.

That was not my claim. The people of South Korea are free, because we
supported a regime some might have called reactionary against
Communist aggression. If we didn't support reactionary regimes in the
Third World, it would have been under *eternal* totalitarian Communist
slavery, because there could be no regime change when the regime is
defended by The Bomb.

Whatever the nature of the South Korean régime it was NEVER
religiously based or reactionary in the sense that a lot of Arab
society is.

But it could be compared with some Latin American regimes, or the ones
in South Vietnam.

Nazi Germany and Communism is the past. The present set of world
problems stem from religious intolerance. This the US has consistenty
stoked up, in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Just as the U.S. gave aid to Russia in the past, during World War II,
thus stoking up the next problem while working on the immediate
threat. This happens when your options are limited.
