On Thu, 28 Feb 2008 10:50:16 -0800 (PST), in a place far, far away,
Allen Thomson <thomsona@xxxxxxxxx> made the phosphor on my monitor
glow in such a way as to indicate that:
I probably don't know enough about the alternatives to Usenet, but one
thing that seems to be missing is the archival and searchability
aspect. With Deja News and now Google Groups, you can go back years
and decades to find out what was said about some topic. That, IMO,
has been extremely useful -- and isn't it being lost with the demise
of serious posting on Usenet with no equivalent alternative?
Henry Spencer kept much space-related Usenet material going back to
1980 or so that is now available to all. Is anything like that going
on now that discussions are taking place in so many different venues?
It's called Google, and Google cache.
