The United States would have been far wealthier today had we avoided
the Indian Wars, the Mexican American War and the Civil War. Contrary
to popular opinion wars cause economic collapse. The great depression
was caused by the destruction of World War 1. The destruction of the
Civil War caused the panics of the 1870s and 1890s. Had the US been
able to stand aside these conflicts, they would have accumulated great
wealth and power in a manner very similar to the Swiss banking system
in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries - or in a manner very similar
to Japan in the 20th century.
