That's not multi-culturalism.
From this distance theyall may blur into "good sound English stock" -- but I think many in
the 18th century would have assured you that Catholics, Quakers, or
assorted Protestant "Dissenters" were every bit as culturally alien
and threatening as you find Muslims.
I am well aware of the diverse nature of the different strains of
British immigrants to this nation (none of them Catholic, though), and
the numerous wars they've had with each other, even in this country
(see Albion's Seed, by Fischer). They had much more in common with
each other than any of them do, or ever did, with Islam. They all
shared the basic English common law traditions, not sharia.
This conflict is starting to arise in Britain, as the Archbishop of
Canterbury's recent faux pas revealed.
