I think this newsgroup, sci.space.policy, is one
of the more significant groups in usenet, or it
could be. The exchanges between Willie Mookie
and kT and BradGuth lately, illustrate a problem,
and now I don't see recent postings from Mookie.
That's too bad, for Mookie has technological
knowhow and strengths anyone *must* have access
to, for good thinking about space policy and
settlements. We need him in sci.space.policy.
As for kT and BradGuth, if they go away that
will be a major contribution from them to
improve the quality of sci.space.policy.
Indeed, it's probably the only good thing it
is in them to do, if they can. But if they
cannot, as I suspect, I've set my IE now to
delete all postings from those two, and I
should have done that long ago. I hope Mookie
does this too, and returns to participate here.
Note to Mookie: is it rational to respond to
irrational rubbish? ?? There are people whose
work lives are centered on hearing that sort
of thing week in and week out: psychotherapists,
social workers, even (sometimes) police. If
they can shed that stuff, you can too.

Agreed, but I do not think they are the only ones, not by any means.
This group contains a number of people who have been in the military.
I feel there is what I term the "al kalb" training. Beni al kalb -
literally the sons of dogs. This is how the Americans in Iraq are
thought of. There is a technique in use which is used to denigrate
people. It has been used in Phoenix (UFOs - in fact tests of stealth
aircraft) in Falluja.
The run in I have had with Rand is legendary, it is now less to do
with policy differences and postings than simply that I am me. The
accusation of paedophilia is absolutely absurd and should never havre
been made. He pretends to be "al kalb" but has in fact never beeen in
the military.
You advise William Mook not too reply to kT of Brad Guth. Possibly,
for them, this may be sound advice, although for my part I feel that
my critics, though wrong, do have the force of the "establishment"
behind them. We get Fred McCall advocating the use of nuclear weapons
for tactical purposes and then getting upset when it is pointed out
that nuclear explosions have spherical symmetry and there is certain
to be fall out. Mind the US military establishment does not care about
anyone except their own, or doesn't seem to. I feel in these
circumstances like someone who is trying to get the truth across
against the might of "al kalb" and the establishment.
William's ideas in general seem to me to be larger than life. What I
think we need to do in this group is to examine how they could work
work out in the near term on a more limited basis. I think in
particular we need to explore the idea of directing energy, whether
microwave or optical. I feel it is vital we do tests on steerable
phase coherent beams. This is I think vital for what he wants to do,
or what he seems to me to want to do.
An array of lasers could produce an exhaust velocity of 10km/s if
focussed onto a rocket motor with liquid hydrogen going through it.
This could be how we ultimately achieve affordable space flight.
However we cannot do this in the near term. Can we do it it in the
medium/long term? I am impressed by what in fact has been achieved in
space by the use of ultrastable platforms. The accuracy of GPS/Galileo
is impressive also.
This tells me that the Physics is there, it is dooable although not
immediately. What we really need to do is to discuss the intermediate
steps, and get William Mook to scale down his thoughts a little.
I agree that kT and Brad Guth do not help us, but neither do a lot of
other people. I feel it should be pointed out too that space is a
worldwide endeavour, not just the USA. Space will have to be developed
for mankind as a whole. I feel that there are certain individuals who
simply see space as a furtherance of US national interest. They are
far more dangerous than Brad or kT.
