If you were given a diagnosis of having only 6 months to live, would
you consider taking a one way trip to the moon to explore something
significant like a lava tube? Consider that the last of your air
tanks would have CO mixed in so you would simply go to sleep. You
would leave a real legacy of new knowledge and there would be no need
for returning you to earth.
I think this idea has some possibility, but it's basically not
doable. Remember the Schiavo event a few years back, where
Congress, Bush, and the Supreme Court thru Republican ideology,
all involved themselves in a single personal tragedy? I think
the results of this current election are refreshing, but in any
case, those people who involved themselves in Schiavo family
business are *still there* and what do you think would happen
if anyone actually moved to implement this idea?
Difference is the person making their own last decisions vs. an outside
party.
Anyway, I know a few cavers that would love to explore lava tubes on the
Moon.
