I've never been in earthquakes; the last hurricane I was in
was Andrew when it hit here.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm beginning to find the panic-mongers
more irritating than the hurricanes themselves.
It's good to be prepared, and hurricanes can and do kill people...
but it seems that every year, the media wants to create more panic
surrounding any potential hurricane in the gulf, and I don't think
it improves anyone's safety.
I have cans of soup, cans of propane, bottled water, and I've thought
out my emergency medical kit _well_ in advance (and it contains stuff
useful for other potential problems than hurricanes).
A lot of that stuff I bought in the _spring_.
It just seems that every year, the news of bad weather is presented
in a manner more and more similar to SNL's old Emergency Broadcast
System skit.
