Uhm? My college's tiny private airport can handle commuter jets, and could
fit a 737 if only we had enough people to put on it (maybe around spring
break, dunno).

And the infrastructure for high-speed planes is indeed very rare. Even many
international airports aren't set up to equip it, hence one reason why the
Concorde serviced so few airports.

I'm originally from Knoxville, TN (exiled to California), and we actually
have one of the few airports in the world that can handle the Concorde (or
other HST), or any aircraft in existance for that matter. We even had a
Concorde service us, take a few people for a quick spin for the "I rode the
Concorde" stuff. But we only could because it was one of the main bases for
KC-135 refuelers, which take a tremendous amount of runway to get off the
ground. Basically, even for the big airports, if you don't need the extra
runway length, you don't install it.

But you've time for the recreation itself? Most of the time the destination
itself really sucks, the least you can do is take a train or cruise or
something and have a good time on the way.
