I don't think it is unreasonable to delay/cancel, at least some, of the
research that is facing the chop to speed up development of a replacement
for the shuttle.

For one thing I cannot see the point of spending millions to look for
planets in other galaxies, when we don't even, currently, have a ship
capable of putting men on our own moon.

The plan not to send men back to the moon until around 2020 is also
ludicrous.

However, before any of this can happen, NASA needs to urgently overhaul it
disaster recovery procedures. While I mean no disrespect to those who
perished in the two shuttle disasters, the time it takes to bounce back from
such "accidents" is also rediculous.
