Heat Resistant Material

I remember seeing somewhere (on TV or something) a material that was
actually white hot (well definitely very hot) but a man was still able to
hold it in his hand. It could have had something to do with a material used
in a space craft of some sort.

Anybody know anything about this - or what it may be that I actually did
see?
