Why don't they revert to painting the tank with some epoxy to help keep the
foam together ? Would it be that much heavier than the initial launches where
the tank was painted ?

or do they feat that the coating would break and falling debris be far more
damaging ?

What about wrapping it in a light carbon fiber or fibre glass mesh before they
apply the last layer of foam ?

At this point in time, wouldn't it be just a matter of making it fly at
whatever cargo penalty as opposed to not flying it at all ?
